Engagement Story
How Chris Proposed (in his words...)

My only plan was not to have a plan at all... The way Amanda had the weekend structured, I was just looking for the right moment. If it didn't present itself, I was just going to hang on and try again next time. She had mentioned a "good" restaurant where she wanted to eat, but I didn't know how to interpret "good". Was it just good food or a really nice atmosphere? We went to eat dinner there on Saturday night and it was like a family owned seafood joint and the mood just wasn't right. So, I decided to keep the ring in my pocket, being careful to always walk on her left side so she wouldn't see it. We still enjoyed dinner and had good conversation. We talked about going to the mall after dinner to "look for a ring" because she did not even know that I had already purchased one. I asked her again what size she wore and said that we should get her ring size re-measured when we went to the mall later on...just in case. She made a comment that the ring that she was wearing at the time was cheap and bent and that it would be hard to tell exactly what size it was. After dinner, we left the restaurant and as I was driving out of the parking lot, I looked up and saw the most beautiful sunset and realized that we were right on the beach. I asked Amanda to get my digital camera from the back seat because I wanted to take some pictures to use as backgrounds on my computer at home. I had just purchased the digital camera recently and had been taking pictures all day, so she still didn't suspect a thing. We parked the car and walked out onto the beach where we took a few pictures (the ring still in my pocket). After a few minutes, she suggested that we walk down the beach just a little ways, but promised that she wouldn't make me go far. We didn't make it very far when I asked her if I could look at her ring, the one we had talked about at dinner. I held it up to the sunset, which was the only light out at the moment, and commented that she was right... "this ring is not very round anymore." Then I pulled the other ring out of my pocket, where it had been nestled for the past few hours, and said "but this one is..." She was speechless...literally. It caught her so off-guard that I thought I was going to have to catch her when she fell. After a couple of stutters and my slipping the ring on her finger, she put her arms around me and whispered "yes". Needless to say, we didn't make it any further down the beach and the sun set quickly. We decided that there was no use in going to the mall to look at rings anymore...she loved the one I had picked for her. We spent the next couple of hours trying to track down people she knows in the area to show off her new ring and fiancé. That's how it happened and there are some pictures of the scenery from that evening and of the engagement ring that Amanda now wears to the right of this story.
